SCHENGEN VISA GUIDE
Plan a multi-country European journey with the right visa, documents and travel itinerary.

A Schengen visa can make travelling through Europe simpler. It generally allows eligible travellers to enter the Schengen Area and move between participating countries without routine internal border checks, provided the visa conditions are followed. The Schengen Area now includes 29 European countries, so one carefully planned application can support an itinerary across several destinations.
The key is to apply through the correct consulate, prepare consistent evidence and show that your trip is genuine, affordable and temporary.
A Schengen visa is a short-stay visa for visits of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. It may be issued for tourism, visiting family or friends, business meetings, cultural activities or other permitted short stays. The visa can be single-entry, double-entry or multiple-entry, depending on your travel history and the decision of the consulate.
The Schengen Area covers most of the European destinations travellers commonly combine, including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Greece, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and many others. Membership and entry rules can change, so verify the current list and conditions before submitting an application.
Apply to the consulate or authorised visa centre of the country where you will spend the longest part of your trip. If you will spend an equal number of days in multiple countries, apply through the country of first entry. Applying to the wrong country can lead to delays, refusal or questions at the border.
Make sure every date matches across your form, bookings, insurance and employer letter. Keep your itinerary realistic, explain the purpose of travel clearly and provide translations or attestations where required. Do not submit altered documents or make non-refundable bookings before the visa decision. Attend biometrics and any required interview on time.
Processing times vary by consulate, season and applicant. Apply well before your travel date and allow extra time during summer, public holidays and other busy periods. A visa approval does not automatically guarantee admission: border officials may still ask for accommodation, funds, insurance and return-travel evidence.
Yes. You can normally travel between Schengen countries during the validity of your visa, as long as your itinerary is consistent with your application and you respect the permitted stay. Keep copies of your bookings and supporting documents while travelling, and count your days carefully under the 90/180 rule.
Check the official consulate or visa-centre instructions for your nationality before applying because fees, appointment systems, document formats and insurance requirements differ. Professional guidance can help you review your itinerary and documents, but no consultant can guarantee a visa decision.
